Not Your Average Piece of Paper

Photos by Lillian Tørlen
Norwegian sculptor Lillian Tørlen is interested in how people experience their immediate surroundings. She creates installations from a variety of materials that are designed to invite the viewer to pause and think about what they are seeing. Often the pieces are subtle and blend into the environment; other times, they are hard to miss, such as these "wind-blown" environments.

These pieces are from a larger installation called "Resonance." The work consists of sheets of paper made of porcelain that seem to have been caught and spread by gusts of wind, and momentarily derive their shape from clinging to walls and corners. The ideas was originally developed for a windy archway in Dublin Castle.
