Martha Armitage was a painter who took a break from painting to raise a family. In her 60's, instead of returning to painting, she began to design wallpaper to meet a desire by her and her husband to return to a minimal style of home decorating. Experimenting with linoleum cutting, she saw possibilities in large shape wallpaper design.
